Fertility Program: Patient Support

Emotional Support

Our caring staff at Wright State Physicians Obstetrics & Gynecology understands that not being able to conceive on your own and undergoing fertility treatments can be stressful. Our experienced and compassionate staff understands what you are going through and is here to assist you by providing you the emotional support and resources that you might need along the way. We understand that each patient and couple reacts to stress differently.

Oftentimes, feelings of anxiety, frustration, guilt and, sometimes, insecurity may be experienced. These feelings are perfectly normal and commonly felt by patients and couples struggling with infertility or undergoing fertility treatment. Sharing your feelings with someone including your partner, a family member or a friend can help to ease emotional stress. Fertility problems can strain even the best relationships. Be sure to:

  • Not assign blame or lash out in anger against your partner.
  • Listen to your partner and share your feelings; communication is very important.
  • Set goals as a couple regarding how far you are willing to go with your treatment plan and discuss your financial and emotional limits associated with treatment.

In some situations, we may recommend that you seek the support of a dedicated counselor or therapist who specializes in fertility care. We also encourage all of our patients and couples dealing with fertility issues to join local support groups. These support groups can help keep you from feeling alone as you draw from the experiences of others.

RESOLVE and Path2Parenthood (formerly known as the American Fertility Association) are nonprofit national organizations that offer group support.

Nutrition and Exercise

Eating a balanced diet is of paramount importance before, during and after infertility treatment. All infertility treatments focus on stimulating healthy eggs. In order to give yourself the best chance possible, your body requires vitamins and nutrients in the correct balance. Please avoid all fried or fatty foods. Please increase your quantity of vegetables and fruits. We believe that nutrition is such an important factor in your success that we are happy to recommend a nutritionist with particular experience in the treatment of infertility.

Exercise is also critically important. Cardio workouts are especially recommended before you start fertility medications. Exercise stimulates the liver to produce sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). SHBG is the protein carrier for hormones such as estrogen and testosterone and balances their concentrations in the blood. We are firm believers in “balance.” Once ovarian stimulating hormones are started, please reduce your exercise program to walking. As each individual treatment plan is different, please discuss your exercise program with Dr. Lindheim.

Please do not smoke or be around anyone who smokes. Smoking any substance is directly harmful to eggs and sperm.

Is There Enough Time and Can I Afford This Treatment?

Often, patients facing cancer have concerns that treatment must be done immediately and that costs can be prohibitive for such care. We will accommodate your scheduling needs and work closely with your surgical oncologist (cancer) physician to expedite your care.

Our financial counselors are available to assist you in determining if insurance coverage is available and to estimate costs for services if not covered by insurance. In addition, Wright State Physicians Obstetrics & Gynecology has worked with the Livestrong Foundation to provide educational, moral and financial support to patients.

Financial Resources

For many couples, the cost of infertility treatment and associated medications can be extremely high — especially when it involves multiple cycles to get pregnant. Those without insurance coverage for infertility care often decide whether to seek treatment based on their ability to pay.

To ensure that the financial aspects of treatment are not an obstacle to your dream of a family, we have partnered with LendingClub.com to offer an affordable, stress-free, financial solution for fertility treatment.

LendingClub.com specializes in providing patient financing services for all fertility treatment options. The company is well known for its easy, convenient loan process and competitive rates.

Once you have accepted the approved loan, a fertility loan specialist will work closely with you to ensure the funds are distributed to your physician’s office, laboratory, surgery center and pharmacy on your behalf.
