Hernia awareness seminar set for May 17

DAYTON, OHIO—Wright State Physicians Surgery is offering a hernia awareness seminar on Wednesday, May 17, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at Miami Valley Hospital South (2400 Miami Valley Dr., Centerville, Ohio 45459) in conference room 1315. The session is free and open to the public.

Three Wright State Physicians surgeons, Peter Ekeh, M.D.; Gregory Semon, D.O.; and Joon Shim, M.D., M.P.H., will speak at the seminar. They will discuss how to determine whether you have a hernia; how hernias are treated; and the importance of hernia awareness. The da Vinci® Surgical System, a sophisticated robotic platform designed to expand the surgeon’s capabilities, will be there to view.

“Millions of people suffer from hernias annually in the United States,” Shim said. “Symptoms include nausea, groin pain and a bulge in the lower abdomen. Hernias occur when organs or fatty tissue push through a weak spot in the abdominal wall.”
