Minimally Invasive Surgical Oncology

Dr. Hellan

As faculty members in the Department of Surgery at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, we are dedicated to providing individualized, comprehensive care to people throughout the Miami Valley region with tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.

We specialize in the most advanced surgical techniques using the da Vinci robotic system for minimally invasive surgery of the stomach, colon and rectum, liver and pancreas. The advantages of robotic surgery include small incisions, less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery and a faster return to normal daily activities. Our commitment is to excellence in all aspects of patient care. Feel free to contact us for more information.

The da Vinci System is a sophisticated robotic platform that provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, enabling them to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

The system consists of an ergonomic surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance 3D HD vision system, and proprietary EndoWrist® instruments. Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, the da Vinci System is designed to scale, filter, and seamlessly translate the surgeon’s hand movements into more precise movements of the EndoWrist instruments. The system cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own. Every surgical maneuver is performed under the direct control of your surgeon. Read more about the da Vinci Surgical System.
