Two doctors with Wright State Physicians Surgery are accepting new patients at Miami Valley Hospital (30 E. Apple St., Suite 5253, Dayton, OH, 45409).
Joon Shim, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, an assistant professor of surgery at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and the only female bariatric surgeon in Dayton, specializes in general surgery, bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hiatal hernia and endoscopy. Dr. Shim is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
She has innovated new approaches in robotic bariatric surgery to reduce trauma, quicken recovery time and improve patient outcomes. She earned her medical degree and her master’s degree in public health from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Massachusetts and a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery at Brown University. She served as an active-duty Army surgeon for four years and completed two tours as a combat trauma surgeon for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Philip Heyse, M.D., FACS, specializes in general surgery, acute care surgery, anti-reflux surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. After earning his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, Heyse completed surgery residency at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Heyse is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
